HOW WE'RE PROTECTING OUR ENERGY IN AN ALWAYS-ON WORLD

August 31 2026 – Delikate Rayne

The rest of the world may not have an off-switch but you can choose when to power off and reset. When you are feeling overwhelmed or like a million things are competing for your attention and time - just pause. There are many things you can do to maintain a balance - keep up with the pace of daily life while also preserving your energy.

1. Carve out time to do nothing:

Your existence is more than about having to get things done. If you make your sole motivation achieving things or always having some kind of project on the side, you will give yourself anxiety. Doing nothing should mean time for relaxation and feeling luxurious - there should not be a negative stigma attached to it. Your schedule is merely the order of what you do throughout the day - and as such is malleable.

2. Prioritizing quality over quantity:

While doing a lot may feel like you're actually being productive, you can still waste time that way. You will feel much better about your efforts if you focus on just doing a task well instead of numerous times. You don't have to be pumping out work every minute of the day.

3. Set boundaries with technology:

Technology is embedded in our lives, but it is not a physical part of us. What feelings does social media evoke in you? Apps? If you feel like your energy is being siphoned away by it, limiting your time with it may be the move. You will be surprised by the amount of clarity you get when you set time limits or just unfollow content you don't want to see anymore.

4. Choose Your Circle Wisely:

The people in your life can either positively or negatively impact your life. Surround yourself with people who actually make you want to strive to be the best version of yourself. Make connections with people who will actively guide you down the path you want to be on. Spending time with the wrong people can be costly and take more from your energy than you can get back.

5. Spend time in nature:

Your energy can be zapped by staying in the same setting for too long. Being in nature or a natural environment can help revitalize your energy. It is a seriously underrated way to recharge yourself and feel vibrant again.

6. Find the quiet: Maximize the moments where there is mostly silence

Quiet can recenter your entire mind and body. Your day may be filled with noise and overstimulation - phone calls, meetings, music, podcasts, long conversations. Rebuild your energy in those little intervals of time where nothing is being said.

7. Learning to say no:

Learning to say no is ultimately about having the foresight to know what is going to serve you and what is going to steal all of your energy. You can't say yes to everything and declining on invitations or not accepting certain opportunities can actually save you in the long run. It also helps you focus on obligations that actually take top priority.

There are many things that can pull away from your energy but you can replenish it with these tips. When you feel something is dimming your energy - listen to that emotion! It is not a crime to recharge and you will be all the happier for it.
