The Phrases Holding You Back From Your Full Potential

September 13 2026 – Delikate Rayne

What you say creates your reality so be careful how you talk about yourself. Right now, you may be sabotaging yourself without even realizing it. Here are some phrases that are holding you back from your full potential:

1. "Someone else is better at this"

Don't let their success be daunting - use that as a template. Though your path my look different, you can look at someone's successes as something to aspire to. Turn comparisons into inspiration. The more you practice, the closer you are to becoming like them.

2. "I've already tried once and I failed"

You have to fail at something multiple times to get better at it. It is the inevitable lesson all of us have to learn. Don't be afraid of failure. Let it guide you to a place of improvement.

3. "It’s too late for me"

As long as you are alive it is never to late to start anything. 'Too late' is a concept we put on ourselves when we feel like we've aged out of starting something new or succeeding in a particular field. Don't fall into that trap. It is only too late if you let opportunities glide by you.

4. "I think I'll just do it tomorrow or sometime this week"

Realistically, you never get to that task when you say this. Tomorrow never happens or you get too busy. Start today - even if it's only a little bit. Trying to one-shot everything at once is a mistake a lot of people make but if you try to make a little progress at a time it works. You can begin at any time but just begin.

5. "How will people judge me if I do this?"

The judgement of other people in the moment may keep you rooted in fear and self-doubt. But the judgement of yourself will be much more severe if you let these doubts control you. When you refrain from making a decision because you are afraid how you will look, you will continue to make choices in fear.

6. "I don't want to make the wrong decision"

You will make the wrong decision anyways. You cannot be one hundred percent certain about how things will go all the time and things go wrong even when you try and control the conditions. You will mess up but this learning curve will prepare you for the future when you meet a similar problem and give you experience.

We are just as defined by the things we don't do as the things we do. Thoughts are a powerful thing, and they can shape or reality for the better or worse. If you want to live in a future where you are confident and have a healthy relationship with your self-image - change how you think.
