REALITY WITH AND WITHOUT TIME MANAGEMENT
April 15 2026 – Delikate Rayne
Does your planning not go according to plan? Schedules are tough, especially if you have a hard time adhering to structure. Whether it's time management apps, penciling dates into a calendar, or utilizing Google assistant, your life without time management probably looks very messy. We're all aware of time - what we do with it may not always be as clear.

Reality With Time Management:
A day without a planner just feels boring. Without structure you may feel aimless, or like you're coasting from one week to the next. Make every hour of your day meaningful. It is much more rewarding to end the day on an exhausted note than an empty one. There should be a balance between your work and leisure. If the pendulum swings too far in one direction, you may feel burnt out or lacking in purpose. Make lists. Check things off. Get a serotonin boost when you've ticked off all of today's task. Work should pave the way for leisure, and leisure should make you appreciative of work.
Reality Without Time Management:
Without time management, you will continually have your life on hold. Getting things done sporadically and inconsistently builds apprehension and dread - not a comfortable work discipline. Those little habits you have - scrolling through your social media feed or playing a phone app to pass the time - while not harmful in and of themselves, can potentially turn into disruptions. These distractions cut into the time you would be spending doing something transformative.
Reality With Time Management:
We all have loose pockets of time - a couple of hours that may be spent scrolling through social media or watching a few hours of television or doing something small like a hobby. When you have a rigid schedule in place, your time is filled up completely. Usually, you will find those free hours later in the day or towards the end of the day. You may feel like doing something productive with this time - starting a new project, learning a new skill, doing some reading. But free hours are for self-care too - not just labor. When you have downtime, you have freedom to luxuriate. Do a spa day. Do yoga. Bask in the few minutes of the day where you don't have to work. Relax with intention.
Reality Without Time Management:
When you have trouble managing your time, it bleeds over into other areas of your life. Those fun things that you planned end up getting rearranged in the calendar or cancelled. You have less and less time to do the things you love. When you push back a deadline or a task you know you need to do, you also push back your free time. Not adhering to a schedule also means bumping up against other obligations. You may push a workday later down the line on a day when you could have been having dinner with a close friend. Arrange your schedule in a way that won't punish future you!
What do all the seconds of your time add up to? When it comes down to it, where do all of your hours go? These are questions that will help you establish a routine. Do you need more structure? Less? Do you need to adjust things around? Manage your time wisely so misery isn't a part of the equation.
