August 17 2023 – Delikate Rayne

People often say that a plant-based diet can not be high in protein. However, that is not true. There are many plant-based food sources that are high in protein which has the added bonus of being better for animals and the planet. Here are 5 sources of plant-based protein that you can incorporate into your plant-based diet.

Tofu is one of the most widely known plant-based protein options, and it is for a reason. Tofu, which is a pressed block made of soybeans, water, and coagulants such as calcium sulfate, is a great source of protein and other nutrients like calcium, iron, and vitamin A

Beans such as black beans, white beans, and chickpeas are another great plant-based protein option. While they are high in protein, they also have the added benefit of being high in fiber, which will improve your gut health. Beans are typically very affordable and are high in nutrients like iron, potassium, folate, and magnesium.

Lentils are another legume that is great for a plant-based diet. Lentils are a good source of protein, folate, fiber, iron, potassium, and manganese. Lentils have been shown to lower blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and blood glucose. This is a great food option for anyone who is looking to improve their cholesterol levels and/or reduce their risk of developing breast cancer.

Quinoa is a seed that is classified as a whole grain, and it is popular for being a great source of plant protein and fiber. Quinoa is a complete protein that is high in nutrients such as manganese, phosphorous, magnesium, folate, and vitamin b1. Quinoa is a fantastic option for anyone that doesn’t eat gluten because it is naturally gluten-free.

Our 5th source of plant-based protein are nuts such as almonds, peanuts, pistachios, and cashews. Nuts are excellent sources of healthy fats and protein. Nuts have been proven to improve heart health due to their unsaturated fats, which lower LDL cholesterol and raise HDL cholesterol.
